FiberLight Promotes John Schmitt to Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer

20-Year Telecom Industry Veteran to Target Growth of High-Density Metro-Based Fiber Optic Services, including Dark Fiber, Custom Conduit and Dedicated Private Networking

FiberLight LogoATLANTA – June 16, 2015 FiberLight, LLC, an industry leader in providing high performance fiber optic network solutions, today announces the promotion of John Schmitt to Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer. John will draw from his 20 years of telecom and leadership experience with FiberLight to explore additional areas for organic growth of its high-density metro-based fiber optic network services.

In his new role, John will continue to strengthen FiberLight’s relationships with national and global technology leaders, including newcomers to the infrastructure business now bringing Wi-Fi to bandwidth-starved cities and cell service providers tasked with meeting growing consumer demand for digital content over mobile devices, leveraging fiber optic networking in innovative ways.

“Every business is cyclical to an extent. There are times when you chase the market and others when the market chases you,” states Schmitt. “We are entering a phase where leased and sometimes owned fiber infrastructure is increasingly appealing to the savviest businesses.  There are few companies in the marketplace today, if any, with FiberLight’s proven experience delivering dark fiber, custom conduit and dedicated private networking solutions from the infrastructure level on up.”

In his 20-year career with FiberLight, John has occupied many roles with increasing strategic and leadership responsibilities, including Regional Vice President of Sales, Vice President of Business Development, and Senior Vice President of Carrier Sales and Business Development. After being appointed FiberLight’s Chief Development Officer in 2013, John oversaw FiberLight’s network expansion activities, developed carrier and wholesale partnerships to leverage FiberLight’s best-in-class Ethernet backhaul networks and strengthened FiberLight’s brand as a custom solutions fiber provider for discerning enterprises in need of an expert in deploying right-fit optical services.

“All of us at FiberLight are pleased with John’s promotion and the expansion of his management responsibilities,” remarks Jim Lynch, Executive Chairman and CEO at FiberLight and Managing Partner at Thermo Capital Partners, LLC. “John will be working closely with the management team as we expand FiberLight’s product reach and strengthen our relationships with key partners. We are in the midst of digital transformations of several industries, as well as the transformation of daily life and work experiences – all of which can create opportunity for FiberLight. John’s past successes at FiberLight, the position of high esteem he holds in the industry and his vision for our growth will help to guide us to continued success.”
