Telecommunications Act of 1996
Ilissa began her career in telecom in 1996, just as the 1996 Telecom Act was put into effect. Recruited to work for an independent consultant, Ilissa wanted to learn an industry, and the owner of DLM agreed to provide training about the telecom sector along the way. Unbeknownst to her at the time, this germinated the combination of entrepreneurial spirit and digital infrastructure interest that permeates iMPR and the company’s culture today.
Joined Ericsson
By 1999, Ilissa's experience in key industry developments had ignited her passion for telecom. Eager to drive innovation, she transitioned into a direct role at Ericsson, determined to explore new frontiers and foster a career in the industry.
Band-X Revolutionizes Internet Connectivity
In 2000, Ilissa was recruited to TransGlobal Communications, where she sold colocation space in Midtown Manhattan. Within six months, the space was contracted, and the company was sold to a telecom e-billing firm. Ilissa then joined Band-X, the bandwidth trading company, evolving the business and later becoming Director of IP Services for their US-based internet exchange.
Telstra USA - Product Management Expertise
After Band-X was acquired by Arbinet (now PTGi), Ilissa was recruited for an International Product Marketing role with Telstra in NYC. She managed their APAC subsea IPL, MPLS, and VoIP services, overseeing domestic partnerships with Global Crossing, Broadwing, and Level 3 (Now CentruyLink, Lumen).
Ilissa Joins the Telx Management Team
Ilissa was recruited to head up Marketing Communications for Telx under Eric Shepcaro. She was on the management team alongside executives that included Chris Downie, J. Todd Raymond, Tesh Durvasula, Hunter Newby, John Bonczek, and Bill Kolman, prior to the sale of Telx to Digital Realty.
PR Consultancy Partnership
Ilissa was asked to join as a partner in a marketing company serving the industry. Within the first month, Ilissa signed multiple new clients to the business, starting a growth phase for Public Relations services in the global digital infrastructure industry.
